Robert D. Grey has served as acting chancellor since May, 2007 as the University has searched for a full-time successor for the position. He was appointed to the position by the UC Regents after spending 18 months as the executive assistant to the chancellor for health affairs.

With a background in cellular and molecular biology, Grey spent eight years as provost and executive vice chancellor at UC Davis. He held a variety of high-profile roles since joining the UC Davis faculty in 1967, including being the founding dean of the Division of BIological Sciences, associate dean of the College of Letters and Science, and chair of the Department of Zoology.

He has served as consultant for a number of universities on academic issues and has participated on numerous advisory boards and committees.

The role of chancellor at UC Riverside is vast and varied. The chancellor is the chief executive officer at the university and is responsible for all aspects of campus administration, reporting directly to the President of the University of California system. Grey has championed several initiatives and worked hard to continue to move the campus forward.
